A Tractor Task Plan for a Kenyan Dairy Farm

A dairy farm can ask one tractor to handle several quite different jobs. Moving feed, transporting materials and working a forage field do not necessarily require the same attachments or the same access space. Begin with a task plan for the actual farm rather than choosing a model from herd size alone.
Separate yard work from field work
Write down the jobs carried out around buildings and the jobs carried out in fields. For each, record the material or crop involved, approximate frequency and the equipment currently used. Keep any loading requirement separate from transport: a tractor, loader and trailer each need their own suitability checks.
Measure the entrances and restricted areas the machine must use. Include the full proposed combination, not only the tractor’s published width. Record where pedestrians, livestock and equipment movements could meet so the farm can plan an appropriate working arrangement.
Prepare a weekly work sheet
- Recurring task: what needs moving or working, and how often?
- Work location: yard, feed store, field or another site?
- Attachment: existing equipment to retain or a new implement to discuss?
- Access constraint: gate, turning area, surface condition or overhead obstruction?
- Timing conflict: could two essential jobs need the tractor at the same time?
This sheet makes trade-offs visible. A machine that serves a field task well may still be inconvenient in a narrow yard. Equally, a compact yard arrangement may not suit a demanding field implement.
Turn the plan into an enquiry
Send the completed task list, relevant dimensions and photographs of access points. Ask for the exact tractor configuration and a technically confirmed attachment match. Where a loader is proposed, request its approved installation and operating information rather than assuming that tractor horsepower establishes lifting capacity.
